MICROSCOPE ROOT CANAL TREATMENT IN BANGALORE

If you have been doing your research about root canal treatment then you would’ve come across the words- Microscopic root canal treatment , microscope endodontics , root canal microscope or microscopic endodontics. Before you get overwhelmed and hope that you may never have to get a root canal procedure in the future- let us just tell you that it is not as complicated as it seems.

Traditionally root canal treatments were performed without any visual enhancements , i.e, with the naked eye. Keep in mind that the tooth is a very tiny part of your oral cavity and the root canals and nerves within- even smaller. It is but obvious then that performing such delicate procedures when you cannot even visualise it will lead to a LOT of errors and complications. Then came the use of dental loupes which definitely helps in magnifying the tooth to see clearly but the recommended magnification is limited , not to mention that it can lead to operator fatigue. While this is definitely better than performing the procedure ‘blindly’ , it does not really help in situations of instrument fractures, tooth cracks and root canal retreatment.

Then came the use of Dental Operating Microscope in Endodontics which allows magnification upto 15-25X. At this level, it is very easy to see all surfaces of the tooth and even deep into the root, sometimes even upto the apex! Use of microscope in root canal treatment has been proven to provide better outcomes since they help in-

  • Finding accessory or additional anatomical structures, eg- canals

  • Locating and retrieving broken/ separated root canal instruments

  • Detecting microscopic cracks

  • Assessing the exact extent of decay and hence prevents excess tooth structure removal

  • Extremely comfortable for the endodontist / root canal specialist to work for a long duration

  • Precise root canal as well as outer fillings can be placed

  • It is attached to a monitor which can be viewed by both the patient and dental assistant and will be kept as a record

In Summit Dental Clinic, we use the Carl Zeiss microscope for all root canal procedures. This has helped us be extremely precise and efficient - just what an RCT needs to be. Our Endodontists have undergone extensive training in Root Canal Microscopy and this is an important factor in the long term prognosis not to mention in painless root canal treatment. We strive to be able to provide the best root canal treatment in Bangalore. Microscopic Dentistry has revolutonised the way the Dental fraternity works and using a microscope is the norm rather than the exception.
